Many racing Thoroughbreds are not as lucky as Teddy is. Some are retrained to have others jobs, some are sent to be bred and some are sent to the slaughter house. Teddy has had some of the best retraining and now has a great life. Other horses that come off the track go into programs to be retrained or are bought by people straight from trainers on the tracks. One of the trainers I know, Dave has been working with the CANTER program for years successfully working with their horses. The CANTER program provides race horses with the opportunity to retire into a new career. Though many horses retiring off the track are retrained and re-homed. Some are not so lucky and are bought to be sold for meat. Retired racehorses are found dead or neglected all the time with many more found on their way to slaughterhouses. They're slipped undetected through the borders to their end.

On April 14, 2001 a little foal was born. He was smaller than the other foals in the barn. But he was going to be a race horse just like the others. His mother was Tella Gate and his dad was Lost Soldier, so they named him Tella Soldier. He would go one to be a terrible race horse. He was on the track for two years until he shattered his patella and had to retire from the race track. Once off the race track Tella Soldier's name would be changed to Just Teddy.
Now after nine years of being off the track Teddy has become a very successful event horse. Correction Teddy has become my very successful event horse as of April 2011. This blog is about the funny little things my horse does as well as what I dig up about his past.
